Intensification Lessons
These materials are provided as an example of how early reading instruction can be intensified and may or may not address the specific learning needs of your students. If the Intensification Lessons align with the instructional need of your students, these materials can be used by teachers to support intervention. See our Instructional Intensification Toolkit for more information on how to intensify instruction using these lessons.
This set of lesson and teaching materials, based on principles of intensification, target phonics and early blending skills. The Intensification Lessons include:
- Teacher Guide: This guide provides instruction to teachers on specific intensification lessons that can be provided as catch-up support for students in grades 1 and 2 who have not mastered kindergarten reading skills.
- Teacher Flip Charts: This flip chart includes the lessons that you share with students to intensify instruction.
- Student Workbook: This printable workbook gives students the opportunity to practice the words they learn during the intensification lessons.
Each teacher will need one copy of the Intensification Teacher Flip Charts and the Teacher Guide. The Intensification Flip Chart contains lesson content for students to look at during instruction. Printing it on card stock is recommended for ease of use. Each student will need one copy of the Intensification Student Workbook.
